Stone lime: a lot of dust - little effect

Limestone from central European lime quarries is already very weathered and compacted because of its great age of 200 – 300 million years.

If any fertilising effect at all is still to be achieved from this limestone, it must be very finely ground.

The consequence is vast clouds of dust when loading and applying it.

However, despite the fine dust form, this stone lime has a fertilising effect of only 50% in the first year, even lower in some cases. This explains the high lime requirement per hectare.

MEERKALK – dust-free, fast-acting chalk granulate

The chalk obtained from our Meerkalk (marine lime) was formed some 60 to 90 million years ago from deposits of maerl (coralline algae). Unlike stone lime, marine lime is a very young material.

The fine, aerated structure of the maerl is still intact and guarantees very high reactivity: 90 % of the fertiliser dose is already fully accessible in the first year. Small application quantities per hectare are adequate.

The uniform granulation means it is easy to apply using a fertiliser spreader. Our MEERKALK is also particularly suitable for fertiliser mixers because of its low moisture content (max. 1 – 2 %).
