AMALGEROL ESSENCE increased yield, oil content and prevented fungi infection

Sunflowers are an important field crop, particularly in the South-East of Europe. Sunflower oil is widely used and excellent for human health.

In this standardised field trial at the Robert Fleischmann Research Institute, we compared the effect of AMALGEROL ESSENCE on sunflowers in two different doses (3+5 l/ha and 6+5 l/ha) as well as in combination with 1 l/ha Iprodion to an untreated as well as to a treated control (1 l/ha Iprodion, classical fungicide, permission expired 2018).

AMALGEROL ESSENCE showed very positive effects on the sunflowers in terms of yield increase (Fig. 1), oil content (Fig. 2) and plant height (Fig. 3).

Sunflowers, however, are sometimes vulnerable to fungi infections. Depending on temperature and humidity, this can be a minor problem, but it can also cause major yield losses. Therefore, fungi infection rates were also evaluated in this trial.

The weather in 2014 was not particularly favorable for fungis. Therefore, infections rates were low and the following 3 species did not occur at all in the stand: Phomopsis stem canker (Diaporthe helianthi), White mould (Sclerotinia sclerotiorum head infection) and Grey mould (Botrytis cinerea).

For another 3 pathogenic fungi some infections were observed at the end of the season in the control parcels, but AMALGEROL ESSENCE-treated parcels did not get infected or on a hardly noticable level. Average infection levels in the control: Phoma Black Stem disease (Phoma macdonaldii) 0,8 %, Alternaria spp leaf and stem spots 2 %, and Powdery Mildew (Erysiphe cichoracearum) 0,7 %.
