Boosting Wheat Resilience: AMALGEROL ESSENCE in Integrated Fungicide Strategies

In 2023, the University of Maribor (Slovenia) conducted a wheat field trial to evaluate 13 different fungicide strategies, ranging from conventional to organic, with reduced or extended programs. A central focus was the role of AMALGEROL ESSENCE in supporting plant health and crop performance under varying input levels.

Across all programs, the addition of AMALGEROL ESSENCE consistently improved plant vigour (Fig. 1). Even in organic systems, where disease and stress pressures were higher, treated plots showed greener leaves and delayed senescence, while the untreated control rapidly lost vitality. This stronger physiological status translated into a lower susceptibility to fungal infections. By early June, Septoria, Blumeria, and Puccinia pressure had intensified (Fig. 3–5), yet organic treatments including AMALGEROL ESSENCE maintained clearly lower infection levels than those without it, narrowing the gap to conventional protection strategies. Fusarium infection in the ears was generally low, but here too AMALGEROL ESSENCE improved plant health (Fig. 6).

Interestingly, AMALGEROL ESSENCE also influenced pest dynamics. In a season with heavy cereal leaf beetle infestation, conventional insecticide programs gave the best control. However, AMALGEROL ESSENCE plots showed considerably reduced damage compared to the untreated control (Fig. 7), pointing either to a repellent effect or to enhanced plant resilience that made feeding less attractive to larvae.

Yield formation was heavily constrained by abnormal tillering and adverse weather (Fig. 8), but even under these conditions AMALGEROL ESSENCE buffered negative effects. It proved particularly valuable in reduced-rate fungicide programs, where yield protection was maintained and quality significantly enhanced. Across all treatments, protein levels surpassed the 15% premium threshold when AMALGEROL ESSENCE was applied (Fig. 9), and hectolitre weight also increased, often crossing the critical market threshold for premium classification (Fig. 10, Tab. 1). Even when used as a stand-alone, AMALGEROL ESSENCE achieved protein and mycotoxin (DON) values comparable to conventional fungicide standards (Fig. 11).

From an economic standpoint, these quality gains translated into higher market value. Profitability was consistently boosted when AMALGEROL ESSENCE was included (Fig. 12–13), with the strongest effects observed in programs where fungicide inputs were reduced. This underlines its role as a profit stabilizer and quality enhancer in both conventional and organic systems.

AMALGEROL ESSENCE not only strengthens plant health and resilience but also safeguards yield quality and market value, making it a powerful tool to support reduced-input strategies without compromising profitability.

+ Increased plant vigour and stress tolerance.
+ Reduced fungal infection in all programs.
+ Lower pest damage from cereal leaf beetle.
+ Consistently higher protein and grain quality.
+ Strong profitability boost, especially with reduced fungicide.
